World Battle Sport Makes Historic Introduction in the Philippines
MANILA, PHILIPPINES — A new era has begun for the dance community with the successful introduction of World Battle Sport (WBS) in the Philippines, transforming street dance culture into a structured competitive sport where dancers can now be recognized as athletes.
Built on the foundations of hip-hop, street dance, freestyle battles, and team competition, World Battle Sport creates a pathway for dancers to compete in a professional sporting environment complete with teams, championships, rankings, uniforms, and future opportunities for national and international representation.
The sport made its Philippine debut through two landmark events in 2026. The first was at Howler’s Festival, where the concept was introduced to the local dance community in front of 30,000 attendees, generating excitement and proving the demand for a new competitive format. The momentum continued at Philippine Blockchain Week, where eight city-based teams competed inside a boxing ring at the SMX Convention Center, showcasing the athleticism, creativity, and competitive spirit that define World Battle Sport.
The success of both events demonstrated that dancers are ready for a platform that elevates their craft beyond traditional showcases and competitions. By positioning dancers as athletes, World Battle Sport aims to create new opportunities in sponsorship, media, education, technology, and professional careers within the global entertainment and sports industries.
“World Battle Sport is more than a competition—it’s a movement to redefine how the world sees dancers,” said Founder Marco Selorio. “For too long, dancers have been viewed solely as performers. We believe they deserve the same recognition, structure, and opportunities afforded to athletes in mainstream sports.”
Following its successful launch, World Battle Sport is now preparing for future city leagues, national championships, athlete development programs, and international competition pathways. The vision is to establish the Philippines as one of the world’s leading nations in the emerging sport while creating opportunities for the next generation of dance athletes.
With growing support from dancers, communities, brands, and technology partners, World Battle Sport is poised to become one of the most exciting new sporting movements in Asia.
